The Western Coastal Board (WCB) oversees strategic coastal and marine planning issues in Victoria's Western Coastal Region which extends from Breamlea (near Torquay) to the South Australia border. The region includes the municipalities of Surf Coast, Colac-Otway, Corangamite, Moyne and Glenelg, and the City of Warrnambool. The coastal sections of the Corangamite and Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority regions are also included.
Victoria's western coastline is world-famous and includes well-known destinations such as the Great Ocean Road, the Twelve Apostles and Bells Beach. The increasing popularity of the Victorian coast has seen significant increases in both resident and holiday populations of towns, with many people becoming aware of the special values of the western coastal region.
The Western Coastal Board's role is to champion the ecologically sustainable development of South West Victoria's coastal and marine areas. It achieves this through being a:Western
